Marrakech – a magical city in Morocco

As you probably know I absolutely love to travel. Marrakech has always been on my bucket list and not too long ago I finally got to visit this incredible city in Morocco!

This bustling city is one of the most fascinating places I have ever visited. It’s really hard not to dream about going back there every waking minute.

Marrakech is a whole other world

There are few places in the world that have surprised me as much as Marrakech has done! From the minute I set foot in the city I felt like I was in a completely different world. All of your senses are being touched by this magical city.

The light is also incredible in Marrakech. As many of the buildings are red you feel like you’re part of the set of One thousand and One Night. It is not possible to describe how beautiful the gold hour is in the city – it has to be experienced!

For some reason, I have always felt the urge to visit Marrakech and even before I had the chance to do so I was sure I was going to fall in love with the city. This is exactly what happened!

Marrakech can be a bit overwhelming, if you are looking for a quieter place Copenhagen might be a good fit for you!

Marrakech travel

Djemaa el-Fnaa in the sunset

When the sun starts to set in Marrakech you should definitely make your way to the famous Djemaa el-Fnaa square. It’s a place full of life where both locals and tourists gather. You can see the snake charmers and have a bite to eat and listen to music there.

The square is part of UNESCO’s World Heritage site list. You don’t want to miss this even if it gets a little bit crowded.

After walking around I’d also recommend a visit to one of the many rooftop bars in the area. That way you can see the square from a different view and enjoy some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle.

Get lost in the souk

If you only have a couple of days in Marrakech the souk is where you should spend your time! Wandering around the alleys filled with small shops is just amazing. They are all full of amazing crafts, leather goods, rugs, decoration and everything else you can think of.

It’s quite easy to get lost here but doesn’t worry about it, that’s how you find the best gems! And eventually, you will find your way out even if it takes you a couple of hours.

Be prepared to haggle for your good in the souk. It is a tradition! Even though you are not an expert when you arrive you will without a doubt have gained new skills when you leave. It’s one of the best ways to integrate and get to know the locals in Marrakech, they also love to haggle!

As I mentioned before I fell in love with this beautiful place and I have a hard time expressing just how incredible Marrakech is. You just have to visit it for yourself to understand where I’m coming from!
